Termination of auto insurance

You generally can make your termination of auto insurance each year at the maturity date, regardless of the reasons.

But this requires respect certain clauses

Termination of insurance auto "without cause": 2 month delay before the anniversary date

-          To cancel your insurance, you must request 2 months minimum before the anniversary date of your contract by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt (RAR).

-          If this deadline is not respected, your insurance company may ask you to pay your annual dues while you are more covered under what is called the "tacit agreement".

-          The insurer also may decide no more sure, and it is not required to give reasons:

·         In most cases, the legal period of notice is 2 months before the expiry date of your contract.

·         In some cases (driving in a State of drunkenness, false statement...): the termination of car insurance is immediate and without notice.

-          Chatel Law now requires the insurer to send to their insured’s in a notice of expiry indicating sufficiently in advance the amount of the contribution for the following year. From the date of shipment of this letter, you have 20 days to terminate your contract (it is important to keep the envelope to justify 20 days). The notice of expiry being prepared in advance, the date shown on the notice of expiry is often quite different from the date of shipment.

If your insurer does not inform you according to the rules, you can proceed with the termination of insurance by mail at any time and with no penalty.

Termination of insurance auto with reasons

In some cases, you can terminate your contract of insurance auto at any time:

-          In the event of sale of the vehicle, the insurance ends the day of the sale at midnight.

·         The termination of car insurance is effective 10 days after receipt by the insurer of your e-mail.

·         You are reimbursed pro rata to the period that remains to run.

-          In the event of increase in your contributions (not linked to a malus)

·         You have 15 days after the notice of expiry to break your contract.

·         Termination is effective 1 month after receiving your mail.
